QRF 15mm Chinese Civil War range

Many years ago QRF produced a range of 15mm Chinese Civil War figures for the 1920-30's period sculpted by Steve Cooper. It is out of production  and will probably never see the light of day again.
Back in the 1990s I had a web page featuring the range but that disappeared along with Freeserve . I was recently contacted about the site so I decided to blog it for posterity.
A useful reference is the Osprey Men-At-Arms Chinese Civil War Armies 1911-1949 (Number 306).

The range covered a selection of Warlord Cliques. For no particular reason the armies are Fengtien (red/white arm band) and Kuominchun Clique (black with white circle armband)

The Fengtien Clique was based in Manchuria so I used mainly Northern Troops with some Southern Troops as a variation. The force also has allied Chihli Clique troops

The crews are from Peter Pig's WW1 range and include my first attempts at head-swaps
The mortars are from Peter Pig's AK47 range

The Kuominchun Clique was based in Western China and for which I used Southern and Neat Troops.

The 2 bases on the right are from CF1 ,Chang-Tso-Lin, Frank One-Arm Sutton and assorted important bods, & CF2, 'Dogmeat' General and Concubine.

Of course no self-respecting Warlord would dream of going into battle without the latest in 20th Century technology

The QRF range was comprised of the following

CG1Northern Soldiers (Fengtien)
CG2Southern Soldiers (Any)
CG3Northern Assault Troops (Fengtien)
CG4Boy Soldiers (Any)
CG5Northern Cavalry (Fengtien)
CG6Southern Cavalry (Any)
CG7'Neat' Soldiers (Chihli, Kuominchun)
CG8Dismounted Northern Cavalry (Fengtien)
CK1Feng Yu-Xiang and Kuominchun Generals
CK2Kuominchun Assault Troops
CK3Kuominchun Line Soldiers
CK4DWM 1909 MG with Crew x 3
CC1Wu Pei-Fu and Chihli Generals
CC2Chihli 'Tin Hat' Assault Troops
CC3Chihli 'Tin Hat' Line Soldiers
CC4Chihli Assault Troops
CC5Chihli DMW 1909 MG and Crew x 3
CF1Chang-Tso-Lin, Frank One-Arm Sutton and assorted important bods
CF2'Dogmeat' General and Concubine, Executioner and victims, 3 x Guards
CF3Mukden Lancers
CF4Browning LMG and Crew x 3
CF5Maxim MG and Crew x 3

There were some really nice touches in this range such as infantry with goggles and boy soldiers but the range does show it's age now.

Unsurprisingly I still have a pile of lead waiting to be painted

I do play with them occasionally using AK47 version 1 rules

The troops in peaked hats would do very nicely for the Mexican Revolution

Finally this army is my claim to war-gaming fame as it appeared on the cover of Miniature Wargames #262

My thanks to Barnaby for making me do this.

Fire In The Bush - Modern Africa using BBB

Rodge has a lovely collection of modern African kit in 15mm. We mainly use RFCM's AK47 v1 which is a great set of rules but can be quite random. Rodge has been tinkering with his own set, Fire in the Bush, for a while but he has taken Bloody Big Battles and tweaked it for modern bush warfare.

The Baako township held by the rebels under Beeko Mumfasa

Shaun played the Government forces led by General President the Right Reverend Jomo Bangbalaonabulu. I played the Rebel forces under Beeko Mumfasa. Our objectives were to destroy the opposing forces and kill or capture their leader.

The battlefield looking west

All vehicles have an Armour Class which certain weapons have no effect against eg a rifle can cause no damage to Armour Class 2 but can disorder it.

Some weapons must fire on their own eg the 105mm SPG can not combine fire with Assault Rifles

Load is the number of bases a vehicle can carry.

Infiltrate is basically the ability to move from one piece of cover to another and is based on Brucie's Play Your Cards Right

Rodge may well post his variant to the BBB Yahoo Group

I deployed the Rebels in the Township and Shaun had the choice of arriving on the Norther East or North West road. He selected the North West road

.. and finally The Victory Speech in front of his loyal supporters

A most enjoyable game - it ran very smoothly and quickly as we all know BBB. The Rule tweaks worked well. BBB is a very good rules engine that lends itself to adaption to other periods. I'm looking forward to Mumfasa's march on the capital.

Rodge made all of the buildings and converted the vehicles. The majority, if not all, of the figures are 15mm Peter Pig.

15mm Shanty Town

On Saturday I picked up some 15mm shanty buildings. The masters were made by Rodge and then cast in resin and painted by Shaun.
There are 3 buildings - two large and one small
I've set them alongside so of my Peter Pig AK47 forces
These are the two large ones
The small one is on the left

I was outside taking the photos when it started to rain...

... the sun came out
There are some lovely bits of detail on these shacks
Just the right size for 15mm
Although my bases are a little bit too thick

The shacks will also go well with my 15mm Sci-Fi kit - District 9 anyone?

They are on sale as a pack of 3 unpainted buildings for the outrageous sum of £10 plus £3.50 p&p tn the UK. Shaun doesn't have a website so if you want any then email him at dreamholme (at) aol (dot) com

Apparently there are going to be some more variations based on the masters.
